Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts, founded in 1949, is a youth mentoring agency that facilitates one-to-one, professionally supported relationships between children and adult mentors. The organization operates across more than 150 communities in Eastern Massachusetts, including Greater Boston, Merrimack Valley, Lowell, Brockton, South Coast, and Cape Cod and the Islands.
The agency serves over 4,000 boys and girls annually through several structured programs. These include Community-Based Mentoring, School and Campus-Based Programs, the Big Futures Mentoring Program, and Girls' Gender-Intentional Programming.
The organization's outcomes are measured against national benchmarks. Youth in its programs are reported to be 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs, 27% less likely to begin using alcohol, and 52% less likely to skip school compared to peers not in mentoring relationships.
